Dracula

Use of colour in this book is very dark and uses hardly any bright colours. The text is all the same fonts and scale. It also reflects the dark theme of the book as it is in quite an old style font.
I think all the images are computer drawn and each page is well filled with images.

Sister Corita Kent
- Corita Kent, also known as Sister Mary Corita, gained international fame for her vibrant serigraphs during the 1960s and 1970s. A Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she ran the Art Department at Immaculate Heart College until 1968 when she left the Order and moved to Boston. She was born on November 20th 1918 and died September 18th 1986. She gained international fame during the 60's and 70's for her vibrant graphic designs. She was greatly influenced by her spirituality and desire for world peace and social justice. Here are one of her designs. The colours used are very bold and stand out more as there are only three colours used. She only used blue, red and white. The typeface used is quite scruffy as if it may have been hand written which reflects the theme of the image well as it is about justice. The colours being red, white and blue are also the colour of the American flag, where she was from. The image in my opinion doesn't need any additional imagery because it is straight to the point. When you first look at it your eyes are drawn to the text which is different colours. I think the hierarchy is in the correct order.I think to create this image it was mostly hand drawn using pens and then taken onto something like illustrator to change it. To make this image more successful i think i would change the background to make it a bit more relevant.“Maybe we are less than our dreams, but that less would make us more than some gods would dream of.” - Sister Corita Kent

Animation
To make this animation I had to use photoshop and draw a circle. Then I had to select 'Window' and then 'Timeline'. Once the timeline was up on the screen I added frames and moved the circle around so it would look like it was moving around the screen when you press play.
To make this animation I had to select each letter separately and then move them out of the page area. In different layers I then had to move each letter back into the frame. After this I opened up the timeline and then it made my gif. I put each frame at 0.1 seconds.

Guess Who
This is my guess who image. I created this image using illustrator. Illustrator allows you yo trace over an image using the pen tool. This tool allows you to create different anchor points which then makes a shape. The pen tool is good because it is very precise so the shape looks realistic.
Once all the shapes of the facial features were done and coloured in (see first image). I selected colours from 'FOCALTONE' and 'skin tone' colour books because they had a good range of different skin tones. i all used the eye dropper tool to take my skin colour from the original image to make it even more accurate.
Finally, to make my image look like a guess who character I used the colour tool to fill in bend the face, then using the two-colour fade tool it made it look like a replica of a guess who character.
The name underneath was the final touch to the process. Although Comic Sans is not a good font choice to use as it is such a common font, it looks similar to the original guess who font.

The Alchemist - Bookmark
For this unit we had to come up with an idea for a book that we were given. I was chosen to do it for The Alchemist. As I hadn't read the book I started with some research about the book and done a few doodles to get a rough idea on what it was I wanted to do. After looking up quotes and other information on the book and author, I had a couple of drawings one of them I wanted to improve and use for my bookmark.
Above is the initial drawings I did to get inspiration for what I was going to do for my bookmark. I decided to go with my drawing of the world with a Paulo Coelho quote from The Alchemist going all the way round.
The next stage of my design was drawing it out and filling in all the spaces with the details I wanted. I used pen to create this and it helped me when doing my final design to know what colours I wanted everything to be.
Once my drawing was finished, I re drew it in pencil and then went over the outline in black fine liner pen so that it would all show up clearly when scanning it into photoshop before changing it on indesign.
Here is my final bookmark design. After importing the image into illustrator, I used image trace and changed the threshold to make the image look more like a graphic rather than a drawing. After this I used the live paint bucket tool to fill in all the different shapes with the right colours. Once all the colours were finished I needed to do the writing around the circle. To do this I made a larger circle around the existing one and inserted the writing so it would follow the path of the circle. Once it was going round in the right shape I had to edit the size and spacing of the font so that it would go around the whole circle. I am happy with my final bookmark design!

Magazine - Double Page Spread & Front Cover
This is my double page spread for my critical debate/interview for my magazine. I created these pages using illustrator. I mainly used the rectangle box tool to create the text boxes and then edited the opacity so you could still see the images through them. To edit the images of the animals I changed their colour then using different shapes over their features I changed the colour of the shapes then changed the opacity. I am happy with how my DPS has turned out.
This is my magazine front cover, to create this it was quite easy and to edit the photo I used photoshop and simply changed the hue/saturation and brightness to create the effect used. To layer the text onto the image I had to reopen the image on illustrator and added the text onto the image.

Magazine Flat Plan - Illustrator Graphic
This is my flat plan but taken into illustrator i made everything look much neater and professional.
Magazine Contents Page - Flat Plan
This is my flat plan hand made version of my contents page. I started by ripping out lots of text from newspapers which I then stuck down onto an A4 sheet of paper. Once it was all covered i stuck a few squares of white paper on top of it as the background for the text. I painted my title onto the page and also the numbers. I finished it off by handwriting the name of each title.
